Air pollution has been an environmental crisis for ages now, and vehicles play a key role in contributing to the damage done. However, in recent years, car manufacturers have introduced various technologies, but Toyota as a brand, doesn’t believe in EV-only products. And while EVs are rather expensive, the more affordable way forward would be to launch a model that is frugal, environment-friendly and affordable to run. And that’s why Toyota launched the Camry Hybrid in 2019. But for 2021, the car receives some all-important updates. So we tell you what’s new and what to expect in Toyota’s entry-level luxury sedan.

A breath of fresh air

The Camry gets some mild revisions on the outside, that include a reshaped front bumper with new inserts that make it look identical to the latest-generation Corolla that’s sold overseas. Apart from that, the 2021 Camry comes with 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheel patterns with a few other external updates here and there. At the rear, you will notice redesigned LED tail light inserts.

The cabin of the new Camry too, gets a couple of updates and now features a bigger 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and Toyota cars states the new infotainment software has resulted in better input response times. On the European car, it receives safety aids like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, road sign assist and intersection turn assist.

The Camry hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine coupled to an electric motor, with power being sent to the front wheels through a CVT automatic unit. It produces a total output of 218bhp.

Looking inside

This is a car that’s used a lot by chauffeurs, meaning the owners don’t really drive them at all. There’s lots of space around, like headroom and shoulder room, and the seats are wonderfully cushioned, while the front seats are ventilated, which proves to be really practical. The cabin is a very quiet place to be in, and Toyota have gone the extra mile to ensure it is lovely interior. When it comes to being ‘blocked-out’ from what’s happening outside, the Camry is one of the best cars in its class.

The Camry features double-wishbone suspension at the back, and at the front, it gets McPherson struts, which help it achieve a good ride quality. The car gets a raft of features like an adjustable rear seat, a nine-speaker JBL audio system, a lot of safety aid, and LED headlamps. The central armrest at the back gets controls for the AC and the rear power sunshades.

Coming soon

The current Camry’s prices saw an increase in July this year, and you can expect the Camry facelift to reach Indian shores by next year. The car rivals the likes of the Skoda Superb. Also, grab the latest info on the upcoming cars, only at autoX.
